Application Process
The mix application is very simple and straightforward and can be found on the mix website. They made the whole process extremely easy and simple and recommend them a lot for how accessible they make the idea of studying abroad.
Getting the Visa
The visa was a very troublesome process as it was up in the air if Japan would even allow foreigners to come in by the start of the semester but fortunately about 2 weeks before the semester started Japan made the decision to finally allow in some foreigners on student visas as well as business visas. The application process was very easy you just have to go to the Japanese Consulate in Hawaii and fill out the visa application while also bringing your required documents like passport, passport photo, and birth certificate. There may be more requirements as the entry requirements for Japan are still quite strict so you can find all up to date information on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan's website.
Packing
You don't have to worry too much about bringing necessities like toiletries because they are very readily available in Japan as well as much cheaper when compared to the prices in Hawaii. If you are studying in spring semester, throughout the course of your stay the climate will be changing a lot as the beginning the average temperatures were in the high 50's to low 60's but once summer hits it will easily be in the high 90's. So I recommend packing lightly for cold weather in the beginning but also bringing a lot of summer clothes as it will very quickly change and you won't be able to wear those cold clothes anymore. Again don't worry too much as you can buy whatever you need in Japan but it is nice to have things readily available for you and not having to go out to buy things. The fashion in Japan is very different from Hawaii so you may want to buy lots of clothes once you arrive like I did so it is up to you if you are willing to spend money on your clothes.
